My Most Trusted Pastor

I speak a lot on my other blog against Calvinism, and sadly there are lots of Calvinist pastors out there.  Too many.  And of course, I think they should be avoided.  I think they are destroying the church from the inside out, a slow destruction.

And so if you want to find a good pastor but don't know who to turn to, I recommend the one I listen to most and trust as the most biblically accurate: Tony Evans.  Back before we left our Calvinist church, when we were getting super fed-up listening to all the Calvinist sermons, I began listening to Dr. Evans every week, and I haven't yet heard anything that alarms me or that I disagree with (except for a few very minor points when it comes to prophecy).

I actually credit Dr. Evans with "restoring my faith" after I felt it crumbling under the Calvinist preaching we were getting at the time.

Is Evolution True?

This is a video of creationist Kent Hovind addressing some of Bill Nye's evolution views.  My husband has been watching a lot of these videos lately and is teaching our boys how to think critically about "evolution vs. creation."

You know, as I think about it, people who challenge the existence of God oftentimes use this as one of their arguments: "But how did God get here?  And how can you know He's real if we can't see Him?"  They act like if they can stump you with these questions then they have shown how irrational Christianity is.

Okay, sure, so we Christians ultimately have two "unanswerable" questions - questions we will never be able to answer to the satisfaction of an evolutionist.  (Of course, the answers are that He was always here and that His creation proves His existence because you can't have a creation without a Creator.  But people don't accept these answers because they just don't want to.)

But evolutionists have far more unanswerable questions than we do (and these are just a few):

Napoleon's Comment about Jesus

I love this quote from Napoleon:

"Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires.  But on what did we rest the creations of our genius?  Upon force.  Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for him."

Sadly, I think many Christians are more willing to die for Him than to really live for Him.  Dying for Him is usually theoretical, but living for Him would require a lot of actual, real-life changes.

Will you be counted among the faithful ones?  The ones willing to die for Him and live for Him?

I know I share these songs often, but they're worth it:  Oh, What Love and Sweetly Broken.

And how about one more: Fearless.

What's behind the curtain?

Does anyone else find it weird that the government wouldn't rush to shoot down an identifiable Chinese surveillance balloon, a clear threat, for fear that it might be too risky to shoot down ... but then they rush to shoot down several unidentifiable objects, having no clue if they're a threat or how dangerous they are?

Something's not adding up here.  I'm not sure what's going on, but I don't think things are what they seem to be or what they want us to believe.  And it makes me less concerned about what they're reporting ... and more concerned about what's going on behind the curtain, their hidden agendas, what they're trying to hide or distract us from or trick us into.

26 Tips for Dealing with Anxiety or Depression (short version)

In no particular order (well, kind of), here are some of the things I've tried and learned when dealing with depression and/or anxiety as a Christian:

1. Clearly identify what you feel and why (if you can).  And pray about it all honestly.  Get real with yourself and with the Lord.  And let your pain draw you closer to Him, purify your trust in Him, and mature your faith.
You don’t have to fix it all.  You don’t have to know what to do.  You don’t have to do it all on your own.  You are not alone in your trials and your pain.  He is always waiting for us to cry out to Him, to include Him in our trials, in our need, in our pain, to let Him into the broken parts of our heart so that He can heal them.  But you have to be honest, to open up the doors that you have closed off in your heart.  (And remember that we're all human, and humans hurt.  And that's normal.  You are normal.  It's okay to not be okay.  You're going to be okay.)
Be real.  Be raw.  Be honest.  That’s a major part of humility.

It is a dreadful thing ...

"Then [Jesus] said to them: 'Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  There will be great earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven." Luke 21:10-11

Any of this sound familiar, kinda like newspaper headlines?

I'm not sure how much time we have left, but I wouldn't wait too long.

"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near." Isaiah 55:6

"But wait," you say, "isn't God all soft and squishy, all about making us happy and giving us what we want?"

More Creation Videos We Watched

A couple good videos my kids and I just watched as part of our homeschooling day:

Did Dinosaurs Walk With Man - a 45-minute seminar from Genesis Apologetics

God of Wonders - an hour and a half "documentary" on the wonders of the God's creation

(Also see this other post of mine for more creation videos we watched: Starting the new school year with Creation vs Evolution.)

"The Most Upsetting Thing"

So apparently, Mister Rogers sang a song about how boys are born boys and remain boys, and girls are born girls and remain girls.  (It sounds like he said it to comfort kids who thought they might end up changing unexpectedly into the other gender as they got older.)  And people are freaking out.  (See the article by clicking here.)

You know what's the most disturbing and revealing thing about this?
